A truly great imagination is often attributed to the very young. But if one decides at a very early age to be an artist and if the imagination is cultivated, guarded and held sacred, life simply awakens it even more.
About
On viewing Tom Trebing’s drawing and paintings one immediately recognizes the artist’s fascinating imagination and uniquely fresh child-like perspective. Tom’s illuminated characters and art spring from a rich imagination nurtured in childhood. As you look at one of Tom’s paintings you may see an enchanted story, a happy memory from your own childhood.
Working in a mixed media of oil crayon and watercolor on paper, his art springs to life in bold dashing colors, playfully layered in a flowing, spontaneous style. His work is truly magical, musical and incredibly fun. Shown are some of the art pieces from the “Long, Tall, Big and Wide” series.
Tom’s career as an artist and illustrator began in the mid 1960’s. In 1970 he found magic in the mixed media style seen in the “Long, Tall, Big and Wide gallery collection. Tom describes how it began, “My wife and I were expecting the birth of our first child. She wanted to me to create art for the nursery she was decorating”. He adds, “She was very happy with the result and so I made more art. My children became disinterested when they became teenagers but when they grew up they wanted all the art back.”
